HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT BRA FOR YOUR DRESS

Awhile back, I received a message from a MichellePhan.com reader named Lisa asking if I could create a bra guide. I’m happy to say it’s finally here! With so many types of bras out there and even more dresses, it’s hard to know what style to pick. Just this summer, cutout dresses, sheer necklines, and backless maxis have been popping up all over the place. Now you can finally wear them without those pesky straps and hooks showing…

Bra and Dress Guide

Low Back/Backless Bras: Dresses and tops with low (or no) backs call for a clever bra design. It looks complicated, but trust me–it’s not! A bra that connects at your waist instead of high on your back allows you to show a little skin without being self-conscious about what’s underneath. You can also get one that’s actually backless, but make sure it still offers the support you need! This can be used for cutout dresses, too.

Convertible Bras: Instead of buying a separate strapless, racerback, and halter bra, why not go for the ever-popular convertible design? It’s available almost anywhere from Victoria’s Secret to H&M, and it’s worth every penny! I love to go strapless when wearing those tops with mesh necklines (like this dress). Chances are you’ll need each of the features at some point or another.

T-Shirt Bras: T-shirt bras and other seamless types of bra are perfect for lightweight cotton and jersey fabric dresses. They’re made specifically to lay on the chest without creating that noticeable bra line through the fabric. You can opt for a lower neckline if you love v-necks, or a more full-coverage piece.

Plunge Bras: Every girl should own a plunge bra for date nights or formal events when you wear a low v-neck or wrap dress. Even if your top isn’t plunging that low, they’re nice because regardless of movement, you won’t see the bra peeking out from your dress.
