NOT YOUR AVERAGE LIPSTICK: 3 NEW LIP COLOR TRENDS

A few weeks ago I wrote about this amazing new lipstick that’s on everyone’s summer wishlist. The crystal clear lipstick — which turns a shade of pink after it’s been applied — is speckled with gold flakes and has an actual flower inside of it. Turns out it’s on everyone else’swishlist too – so it might be hard to get your hands on it right away. Luckily, there are plenty of other lip trends to try in the meantime. Check out these lipsticks and glosses that are changing how the beauty world defines lip color.

Color play — Normally with lipstick, what you see is what you get. But these companies are pushing boundaries with color, before and after you apply. Illamasqua’s Limited Edition Lava Lip – Marble Lipstick blends pinks and purples into a stunning marbled pattern. How does it look once it’s applied? The main color here is pink, while some areas will have an ombre fade into a darker purple shade. Frog Prince Lipstick from Lipstick Queen is another bold lip option — because it’s a bright green lipstick. But, like its namesake frog prince, this lipstick has a secret. Within seconds of applying, the lipstick reacts to the heat of your skin, and turns into a rosebud pink.
Heavy metals – There’s not a more perfect time for metallic makeup than summer. Eyeshadows and nail colors are the least risky ways of trying this trend out, but for the daring, there’s metallic lipcolor. The Wicked Lippies line from NYX has an amazing shimmery shade that turns your pout a glistening gold. And then there’s Heavy Metal by Ka’oir — a wet, silvery lipgloss with a high-shine, long-lasting mirror finish.
On the surface – Colors aren’t the only way lipsticks are pushing boundaries. They’re also playing with texture beyond the old glossy versus matte. This Melted Matte Liquified Lipstick from Too Faced glides on smoothly like a gloss, but dries matte. This way, you get a flawless application with the opaque, color-rich matte finish that lasts for hours. What about something low-maintenance that you only have to apply once? Once this matte-finish Lip Stain from Milk Makeup goes on, it stays all day. That’s because it penetrates the skin’s top layer, giving you a boldly colored lip that doesn’t require too many touch ups.
